Beyond Antivirus: EDR, MFA and Least Privilege for Endpoints

May 13, 20260 views

Antivirus Alone Is No Longer Enough

Signature-based antivirus catches known, yesterday's threats. Modern attacks — fileless malware, stolen credentials, living-off-the-land techniques — walk straight past it. Endpoint security today is less a product and more a set of habits.

Three That Matter Most

EDR — endpoint detection and response — watches behaviour, not just signatures, and can isolate a compromised device automatically. Multi-factor authentication blunts the impact of a stolen password, still the most common breach cause. Least privilege ensures that if one account is compromised, the attacker inherits the smallest possible blast radius.

None of the three is exotic or expensive. Together, and kept current, they turn a single mistake into a contained incident rather than a company-wide crisis.
