Where Cloud Budgets Quietly Leak — and How to Stop It

Cloud Bills Leak; They Rarely Explode
An out-of-control cloud bill is seldom one dramatic error. It is dozens of small leaks: instances left running overnight, resources sized for a peak that never comes, and storage from projects everyone has forgotten.
Where to Look First
Right-size compute to real usage, not to a guess. Shut down or schedule non-production environments outside working hours. Delete orphaned disks, snapshots and unattached IP addresses. Move cold data to cheaper storage tiers.
The deeper fix is ownership: every resource should have a name attached to it and a reason to exist. A monthly cost review — treating spend as something managed, not just paid — typically recovers a meaningful share of the bill without touching performance.
