Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery: Still Your Job

Hosted Is Not the Same as Backed Up
It is a common and dangerous assumption: the data is in the cloud, so it must be safe. Cloud platforms keep infrastructure resilient — they do not protect you from a deleted file, a bad sync, ransomware, or a mistaken bulk change.
Doing It Properly
Apply the same backup discipline you would on-premise. Keep independent backup copies — including for cloud email and document platforms, which are frequently assumed to be self-protecting and are not. Hold a copy outside the primary account so a compromised login cannot reach it.
And test restores. A backup that has never been recovered is an assumption, in the cloud just as much as in a server room.
